As the name suggests, Greek Salad originated in Greece where the ancient civilization loved eating raw vegetables dressed with vinegar, oil and herbs. Another name for the same recipe is Country Salad and the dish is healthy, nutritious and simply delicious.

Here is the recipe.

Ingredients for Greek Salad :

Salad Ingredients:

European Lettuce (torn into small) – 10 gm

Black Olives (halved) – 20 gm

Green Cucumber (peeled and cubed) – 10 gm                              

Onion (cubed) – 10 gm

Tomato (cubed) – 20 gm

Feta Cheese (cubed) – 30 gm

Capsicum (green, yellow and red) – 30 gm

Oregano Herb – 1 tsp

Dressing Ingredients:

Vinegar (white) – 10 ml

Salt – 1 tsp

Olive Oil – 20 ml

Black Pepper (powder form) – 1 tsp

Lemon Juice – 10 ml

Oregano Herb – 1 tsp

Recipe:

(Preparation time: 10 minutes; serves: 4)

Take a large mixing bowl and toss in all the salad ingredients. In a small bowl whisk together all the dressing ingredients and pour over salad and toss the entire salad until everything mixes well. Put it in the refrigerator to chill before serving.

Fresh Take on the Recipe:

You may replace Feta cheese with low fat cottage cheese or Tofu. To increase the protein value you may also add in 20 gm of boiled chick peas and 10 gm of baby spinach leaves.
